Pet Collection | Rufus

Per our Vet’s instruction, I have been spoiling Rufus lately and he has loved every minute of it. But you’re probably wondering why the Vet would suggest something like spoiling our dog more than usual. It all started about 2 months ago after chest x-rays, blood work and an ultrasound when we found out that Rufus has Lymphoma. Yes, my puppy dog has Cancer. The news was heartbreaking and terrifying for me. You see, although Rufus is not my first pet, he is the first dog I have ever had as a pet. When I decided to get a dog, I was at a difficult point in my life and I just wanted to be loved. Even though I never had my own dog growing up, somehow I knew that owning a dog would guarantee me an unconditional love. And I was right. Ever since the first day I brought Rufus home he has loved me unconditionally and I have loved him back just the same.
I’m still coping with the fact that I might have to say goodbye to Rufus much sooner than I had ever expected, but I have vowed to make the best of the days we can still spend together. I check on him during my lunch break whenever I have the chance, I walk him and play with him, I feed him treats and I take his picture. And since we started chemo, Rufus seems to be back to his old self again…only really hungry all the time!
Peanut butter has always been a favorite treat for Rufus. He just can’t seem to get enough. He gets so excited whenever I have the jar out on the counter that he poses like a statue in hopes of getting a taste. He stares at the jar… and then back at me… and then back at the jar… and then back at me… and I can’t help but give him a tiny bit. Then each time we have used up all the peanut butter in the jar, Rufus gets to finish it off and clean out whatever is left inside. And he is happy.

I can’t possibly thank God enough for bringing Rufus into my life especially at a time when I felt like I needed him so much. Rufus has changed my life for the better in so many ways and I love him dearly. So, for now, I just want to see him happy.
