Personal Collection | Mother's Day

Here is a picture of my Mom and my Grandma. This year for Mother’s Day my Dad suggested that we get all the moms together for lunch and I agreed to help him set it up. So, you know I was thinking tea party, mini sandwiches and fancy invitations…all the stuff my Mom loves, right? No problem. So, the next day my Mom & met up to check out a fashion show and do lunch at the Fashion Mall. It was a nice, relaxing time and we even did some shopping. The whole time, I was just beaming with glee about the Mother’s Day party I was secretly planning with Dad!
On our way back to the car, Mom & I walked through Saks admiring and critiquing… as we do. Both of us seemed to slow our pace as we made our way through the shoe section, but then it was a dead stop by the time we got to purses and bags. Go figure!? My Mom ended up finding a Ginko leaf pin in the Chanel boutique. The gold pin with black and white accents reminded me a bit of an Art Deco design and I could tell that my Mom just adored it. So we were standing at the register and the saleswoman made a suggestion to rationalize this as an early Mother’s Day present and I was flipping through a catalog and smiling to myself thinking, “Yeah, that sounds good. Then she can wear it to our surprise Mother’s Day party!” But I have been so busy lately that I didn’t realize Mother’s Day was only a week away at the time. Needless to say, I panicked a bit when the saleswoman pointed that one out! So, I checked the calendar on my phone and, yes, she was right. I was thinking to myself, “I don’t have the time or energy to throw a party at our house right now and what restaurant will have any reservations left on Mother’s Day weekend?” As we sat in my Mom’s car in my driveway, I explained my sudden moment of anxiety. She and I tossed ideas back in forth and somehow got to the suggestion of lunch at Hollyhock Hill. Thankfully, when I called they still had a table available.

And so for Mother's Day this year we did get to have a nice lunch at Hollyhock Hill with my mom and her mom, Dad and his mom, Dan and his mom, my brother and me. And it was a surprise at the last moment kind of thing. And Mom wore her Chanel pin.
